After getting a parachute with chocolate, one boy recalls, “That parachute was something more important than candy. It represented hope. Hope that someday we would be free. Without hope the soul dies.” What does it mean to you to have hope and be free?

Hope means thinking you have a positive future, that you have a lot of choices. Being free means you can make choices, that someone else doesn't choose for you.
I was talking about WWII with my grandpa and I said the soldiers were fighting for America. He said, "No Will, we were fighting for freedom. That's something worth fighting for."
